Mt. Horai is a popular spot for mountain climbing and highland leisure pursuits. Alighting from the Biwako Valley Ropeway, you will find recreational facilities for the whole year, such as hiking courses and camping sites, spread in a great natural environment. In the winter, the valley becomes a ski resort.

Against the Hira Mountains, the wide expanses of white sand and green trees make a superb view. Between Katata and Shiga, Lake Biwa is a popular lake resort with good water quality for swimming and convenient access by road and rail. There are many swimming beaches that attract lovers of marine sports.
